It's Hard to Move On
Opposite Sides
I set to work on sharpening my swords, hoping to push the thoughts of Seiko out of my mind. She was going to be on the opposite side of the playing field than I was, and more than likely we were going to end up being opponents. Keyan, was her older sister, thought to be long dead. It was startling news to realize that she wasn't alone in the world anymore.
I sighed. I couldn't focus on my task. Renai had been right. If I couldn't get myself together then there would be no hope to winning. I didn't even know what we were fighting for, but I didn't care. It was something to keep my mind off the things at hand, or so I had thought at the time. Renai had also said to think about the choice of leaving my lands unattended to rule themselves. They'd never been without a ruler before, for more than a few months. They'd cope and adapt.
Before Zoin or anyone else could corner me I left the room and headed back to my own. When I got there Jori was lying on my bed staring out the window towards the moon. He hadn't heard me enter. I cleared my throat, startling him a little.
"Sesshomaru!" Jori said looking at me. This man annoyed me. He was too...good. "Just the man that I wanted to see!" Jori added. Uh-oh was the thought that ran through my mind. Maybe I should have let Zoin corner me, at least then I'd have a reason to break a nose. Or an arm. I waited for him to continue. "I noticed your reaction to the name 'Seiko.' What do you know of her?"
"The Seiko I knew and the Seiko you are referring to are not the same person." I lied through my teeth. It was none of his damn business and it was going to stay that way. Though I suppose that it actually was his business considering all of us were enimies. The thought occured to late to stop myself from lying. Either way I would have told him the same thing in the end.
"That is unfortunate. Very well then, I'll leave you to your own affairs." Jori stated, then left my room. That man was too good. The biggest threat he'd said was that if I said no to his offer he'd kill me. I should have said no. After he left I went and made sure that everything was where I left it and that nothing had been added. You could never be too sure with 'good' people. They just didn't come off right. There was nothing that was missing, and nothing that wasn't supposed to be there.
The moon was shining brighting throught the small window, shedding light in a single square beam. It's light was white and seemed to bestow peace upon everything that it touched. The thought of peace was appealing, none of this troublesome emotional crap would be happening. With a sigh of irritation I headed over towards my bed and laid down on it. I knew I wasn't going to sleep.
I had been wrong and I had ended up drifting off to sleep. "Seiko..." I whispered as I fell asleep on the bed. I was wishing that she was okay, and that in the end she'd backed out. I knew that it was false hope, she jumped into things head first with her eyes closed. Someone had always been there to pull her out before she reached the bottom of the pond. Not this time. She'd have to open her eyes before she got stuck in the muck at the bottom. Seiko was going to get stuck in it before she opened her eyes. That's how she worked. "Idiot..." I added in my sleep.
I woke a couple hours later to people stomping through the tunnel in front of my room. I didn't think that anyone would walk by here. It was in the middle of no where. I got out of bed, my curiostiy perked, and walked over to the door, opening it to see what was going on. It was soldiers marching. They were heading down the tunnel, which could only mean that we were headed to war. I knew this day was going to come, but I didn't know that it was going to come so soon.
"Sesshomaru." Jori said as he cut through the ranks to come to my room. "Prepare for war. We march to the front on which we are going to fight." Jori said to me. I nodded my understanding and dressed for the occasion. I wore my usual outfit with my armor. I walked out of my room and walked besides Jori. He was dwarfed by my height, it was quiet humorous.
As we marched no one spoke a single word. Everything was silence, the only sound was from our feet hitting the ground, and even then it was mostly the soliders feet. The rest of us padded alone silently. Soon enough I could see the other army, the one with Seiko in it. We were currently the same rank, but how did our powers match up? That was the question that was going to be answered.
I pushed all thoughts of my feelings for her aside and contiuned to march. My face was stoney, and showed nothing of what I was thinking. I was thinking of how I was going to kill as many as possible. My whip would do good in situations in which I was surrounded. As I walked I thought of all the tactics I knew. In all my years I'd collected quiet a few. Before I knew it, we were stopping and taking formation.
Jori was standing in the middle. I was on his right. Next to me was Renai, then Hoiem. Zoin and Daiku, and Kaile were on the left of Jori. The twis on the end and Zoin standing next to Jori. The other army stopped just as we did and took the same formation. I saw Seiko and she saw me, but we exchanged no words.
Jori and I walked out to the middle, and so did Seiko and Kayen. Jori and Kayen were looking at each other, debating with each other who would speak first, silently between themselves. Seiko didn't even try to make eye contact, she was ignoring me! I almost let a smile slip. In this dire situation, where we stood on the opposite sides of a soon-to-be-battle-field, she was just ignoring me. It was almost enough to make me laugh.
"Keyan," Jori began, having lost the silent debate. "Back down now and we wont be forced to kill you." Jori said. Keyan smiled at him. Jori was slightly taken aback by this. Keyan's fire red eyes were glowing full of excitment. She was indeed Seiko's sister.
"I think not, Jori." Keyan said. "We will fight you until our last breath. This is a battle that had been long waiting to happen." Keyan added. "It will not be stopped so easily. Forces in Heaven, and Hell have decided that this is going to happen and we both know it. Both of us were sent here to make it happen. Heaven is going down." Keyan turned and walked away, Seiko followed her, after Jori had turned around I was still standing there, waiting for him to get a respectful distance infront of me. Seiko turned her head and looked at me quickly before seeting her eyes forward. That little look told me that she was hoping I was still looking. I was.
Seiko, I thought. Don't hold back.
